Ms. Zimbiri Becomes First Female SAFF Executive Committee Member.
The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) marked a proud and historic moment as Ms. Zimbiri was elected unopposed as the first-ever female member of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Executive Committee.
The election took place during the SAFF Congress held on 24 May 2025 in Kathmandu, Nepal, and was attended by all member associations, either in person or virtually. The session was conducted with full transparency, with media presence allowed throughout the proceedings.
This landmark achievement not only reflected Bhutan’s growing presence in regional football governance but also signaled a significant step forward for gender representation within South Asian football leadership.
Key Decisions Endorsed at the SAFF Congress
In addition to the election, several key decisions were endorsed during the Congress:
The SAFF Safeguarding Policy was officially adopted to enhance the protection of children in sports across the region.
The 2024 Financial Statements were approved, along with the 2025 Budget.
Sri Lanka was confirmed as the host for the SAFF U-17 Championship in October 2025, while Nepal was selected to host the SAFF Women’s Club Championship in November 2025.
Bhutan was granted the hosting rights for the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship, which is scheduled to take place in September 2025.
This Congress served as an important platform for collaboration, transparency, and progress, setting a forward-looking tone for football development and governance in South Asia.
