On February 6th, the Bhutan Football Federation convened a crucial meeting in Punakha, with 20 Dzongkhag Education Officers and 4 Thromde Education Officers to deliberate on forthcoming BFF programs tailored for schools nationwide. In a concerted effort to amplify the involvement of both male and female students in football across the nation, the Bhutan Higher Secondary School Championship will be extended to include divisions for both genders this year. Additionally, to nurture grassroots initiatives and cultivate budding talents, U-13 and U-16 School Youth Tournaments will be organized. This collaborative endeavour underscores our commitment to fostering a vibrant football culture within Bhutanese schools, laying the groundwork for a promising future in the realm of sports.

Cultivating Young Talents into Refereeing Across the Nation

The Bhutan Football Federation kick off with the inaugural of the four days grassroots refereeing program in Phuentsholing today. The program is a significant step towards promoting and nurturing young talents in the field of football officiating. A total of 20 participants have been selected to partake in this pioneering initiative, comprising 8 girls and 12 boys. The chosen participants hail from various regions, including Gelephu, Samtse, Punakha, and Paro, showcasing the program’s commitment to inclusivity and nationwide representation. The age range of the participants spans from 10 to 17 years, underlining the emphasis on cultivating referee skills among young individuals. The program is led by experienced instructors and referees in the country, namely Mr. Ratan Rai, Mr. Namgay Dorji, and Mr. Pema Norbu, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the sessions. The session are mentored by Mr. Ugyen Dorji,  the Head of the Referee Department, providing guidance and support to ensure the success of the grassroots program. This initiative not only marks a historic moment for the Bhutan Football Federation but also highlights the dedication to fostering a new generation of referees. The inclusion of both girls and boys in the program reflects a commitment to gender equality and the belief that everyone should have an equal opportunity to contribute to the sport. According to Mr. Ugyen Dorji, the Head of the Referee Department, “This marks the initiation of the first-ever grassroots refereeing program in the country, and it’s currently in its pilot phase. If proven successful, we are committed to extending the program to other districts. One of our primary goals is to involve the younger generation in a meaningful activity during the winter break.” As the participants undergo training in Phuentsholing, the program aims to instil not only the technical aspects of refereeing but also essential values such as fair play, integrity, and teamwork. The program was graced by the chairperson of National Council, His Excellency Sangay Dorji, UNICEF Regional Director for South Asia, Sangay Wijesekera and the President of the Bhutan Football Federation Dasho Ugen Tsechup. The event was attended by the officials of UNICEF Bhutan, BFF Staffs, coaches, parents, children from various schools including children with disabilities and monks.

In a significant development for the world of football coaching in Bhutan, the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) has initiated the groundbreaking BFF-AFC Professional Diploma Coaching Course. This course not only signifies a step forward for the nation’s coaches but also reflects the evolving nature of football in the modern era.  Football, with its ever-changing trends and techniques, demands coaches to stay at the forefront of knowledge and innovation. The BFF’s forward-thinking approach to education in the sport is evident in its collaboration with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to introduce the first-ever BFF-AFC Professional Diploma Coaching Course. Mr. Vaithilingam Subramaniam, The lead tutor of the course Led by the esteemed Mr. Vaithilingam Subramaniam, Technical Director of AIFF and former Technical Director of BFF, the course aims to elevate coaching standards from the conventional level to a professional zenith. Divided into carefully structured module-based sessions, this course spans nine months, with modules 1, 2, 3, and 6 conducted within Bhutan. However, the course’s international exposure is not limited to theory, as module 4 unfolds in Patiala, India, fostering an exchange program with Patiala Academy coaches. Module 5, meanwhile, unfurls its wings in Saudi Arabia, providing participants with insights into professional coaching practices there. In the context of the course’s content, module 1 casts a spotlight on critical aspects of the game such as the phase of play in an 11 v 11 scenario, attacking development from the midfield, and the interplay between possession and penetration strategies. The AFC Fitness Level 1A Coaching Certificate Course

The AFC Fitness Level 1A Coaching Certificate Course

The AFC Fitness Level 1A Coaching Certificate Course began on 24th July 2023 at Thimphu. A total of 19 coaches from the clubs and academy are taking part in the course out of which six are female coaches. All the coaches who are attending the course are minimum B coaching license holders. Dr. Pradeep Dutta from India is the course instructor from AFC for the course. As Physical demand is very important in football and plays a vital role in football this course will help the participants in knowing the importance of fitness in football.  The course instructor from AFC The duration of the course is for five days with both theory and practical sessions. The Technical Director of the Bhutan Football Federation Mr. Mehmet graced the opening ceremony. The coach education department feels it’s very important to educate our coaches on components of fitness which are required to develop players’ performance in football.

Bhutan’s grassroots and youth football initiatives prioritise game promotion across the country in addition to player development and talent scouting.In addition to being one of the most practical and effective ways to engage kids interested in sports, schools in the districts are one of the main suppliers of players for the elite academies of the BFF. The F4S program will enable schools to address a variety of social issues in addition to making sure that football is accessible to all students without discrimination.Given the fact that many schools lack the tools and trained staff needed to deliver football activities, This program will help them support, deliver, and manage F4S activities in their schools and communities. While supporting the provision of football coaching and equipment to schools is the primary goal of this program, this program will also prioritize giving opportunities to all young children, opportunities for Coaches, Parents, and Educators to grow and prepare a sustainable relationship with stakeholders“This program is one of the biggest collaborations with the Department of Education Programmes under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in recent years.” Yeshey Dorji, the head of the grassroots football division. “The launch of this event will bring together key stakeholders, government officials, educators, and football enthusiasts, all committed to fostering youth development through the beautiful game of football. Children at this stage are naturally curious, respective and formative, making it an ideal time to introduce them to sports activities that can contribute to their overall development. The Bhutan Football Federation Grassroots Football Program The four-day Bhutan Football Federation Grassroots Program in one of the remote places in the country, “Merak and Sakteng,” ended yesterday. The program was conducted at Sakteng Lower Secondary School on the 10th and 11th of June. A total number of 184 kids from the Sakteng community took part in the program. Similarly, the program was also conducted at Merak on the 14th and 15th of June 2023 involving around 174 kids. The program was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Yeshey Dorji, Head of the Grassroots Football Division, assisted by Mr. Dorji Tenzin, Elite Grassroots Coach, Mr. Lhendup Dorji, Eastern Regional Manager, and volunteers from the school. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM To positively engage children in a fun, enjoyable, and inclusive football experience to learn and develop techniques and skills in football. To encourage children to play football and develop a love for the game from a very young age with fun and easy football activities. To promote the holistic development of children; friendship, respect, teamwork, healthy lifestyle, honesty, effort, and confidence. To promote the physical and mental health benefits of playing football. To give everyone an opportunity to play regardless of age, gender, social background etc… To take football to the remotest place. The Bhutan Football Federation marks the 10th AFC Grassroots Day

The Bhutan Football Federation in collaboration with Paro Football Club celebrated the 10th anniversary of AFC Grassroots Day, 2023. The AFC Grassroots Day 2023 was marked as the 10th year in commemoration of this beautiful game of Football. The event was graced by the the Executive member of the Bhutan Football Federation, Mr. Chencho Dorji, the General Secretary, Mr. Ugyen Wangchhuk, Mr. Mehmet, the Technical Director of Bhutan Football Federation, The President of Paro Football Club, Mr. Karma Jigme, the staff of Bhutan Football Federation and parents.The AFC Grassroots Day was initially started in 2013. To this day, the event is celebrated with the objective of encouraging mass participation, stimulating greater interest in the game, providing more opportunities for social inclusion, supporting healthy lifestyles, and the development of young people, both in the sporting and educational aspects. Four schools from Paro district participated at this year’s event; Paro Elementary School, Yozerling primary school, Woochu lower secondary school, and Khangkhu Middle secondary school. A total of 260 students are participating in this event. Today’s activities included game and technical training in the main pitch, a technical contest engaging 100 children, and a team collaborative challenge engaging 60 children. The Bhutan Football Federation would like to share our heartfelt gratitude to AFC for supporting the grassroots in the country. Not to forget we also would like to share our heartfelt gratitude Paro Football Clubs, and volunteers from Paro College of Education(25 students pursuing Diploma in physical education and sports coaching), 10 senior players from Paro FC, 5 Paro FC Coaches, and 10 are parent volunteers for helping us in running the AFC Grassroots Day smoothly. SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST WORKSHOP

Football is the most popular sport worldwide, captivating millions of fans and players alike. The passion of supporters is a symbol of unity and excitement, but amidst the fervor and intensity of the sport, it’s crucial to acknowledge the potential risk associated with it. One such risk is cardiac arrest, a sudden and life-threatening condition that demands immediate attention. NO ONE GOES TO A FOOTBALL MATCH EXPECTING TO DIE. With this recognition and its importance, the Bhutan Football Federation medical department has come up with an education and awareness program by conducting theory and practical classes for players, coaches, and referees about cardiac arrest and its signs. Encouraging individuals to learn basic CPR and the use of an AED immediately, which can improve survival rates by a high percentage. By taking proactive measures, the soccer community can significantly reduce the risk of cardiac events and provide a safer environment for players to showcase their skills, passion, and love for the game. With this recognition and its importance, the Bhutan Football Federation medical department has come up with an education and awareness program by conducting theory and practical classes for players, coaches, and referees about cardiac arrest and its signs.

The Bhutan Football Federation Appoints New Technical Director

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐞𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐡 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫. Mr. Mehmet is from Turkey and holds the following licenses: AFC FOOTBALL-A, AFC FUTSAL LEVEL-2, FIFA FOOTBALL FITNESS, FIFA FUTSAL, FIFA BEACH SOCCER, and ITALY FUTSAL. He has a rich background in football and has coached a few clubs in Turkey, Taiwan, and Laos, as well as the national teams of Taiwan, Laos, and Brunei. He has conducted workshops on effective thinking in football, Asian women’s development analysis, the football defensive system, youth training strategies, and football transitions. He stated that he is very happy to be in Bhutan, the environment is very nice and he is trying to analyze the general environment of the Federation, and he also stated that he is here to support the technical aspects of Bhutanese football and the approach of moving forward.
