Tensung FC Hold Firm to Claim Hard-Fought Victory in First Home Game
Tensung FC secured a gritty and hard-fought victory over the Grizzly Bears, Transport United FC, in a tightly contested Match Day 8 clash of the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 at MTC Artificial Turf.
The opening 10 minutes saw Transport United FC enjoying more possession, patiently probing for space and trying to settle into their rhythm. Tensung FC, meanwhile, sat compact and worked aggressively to win second balls, often disrupting the visitors’ buildup in midfield.
Despite their early dominance on the ball, Transport United FC nearly capitalised on a defensive lapse. Jigdrël came close after a loose ball from a dangerous cross by Abayomi, but a fraction of a second delay in finishing allowed the Tensung goalkeeper to recover and smother the danger.
Tensung FC’s first meaningful attempt arrived in the 24th minute when their Phub Dorji, the full-back, burst forward after beating two defenders. Creating space for a powerful strike, he forced a sharp save from the Transport United FC goalkeeper, signalling the home side’s growing confidence. From there, the match turned into a tactical battle with both teams cancelling each other out, with few clear-cut chances before the breakthrough.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 39th minute in spectacular fashion. Thinley Wangdi delivered a sensational acrobatic finish at the MTC Artificial Turf, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and igniting the home crowd into celebration.
Just before the interval, Transport United FC came agonisingly close to an equaliser. In the 44th minute, they were awarded a free kick after Thinley Wangdi brought down Andrew. Bikash stepped up and unleashed a powerful effort, only to see it crash off the woodwork and it was a huge let-off for the hosts.
The second half saw Transport United FC push higher, searching relentlessly for an equaliser. Their skipper looked lively and dangerous, but Tensung FC’s defensive unit stood tall, intercepting crosses and limiting clear chances.
Late in the game, Transport United FC introduced Tandin Namgay, hoping for a late spark after his match-winning heroics against Tsirang FC. Deep into stoppage time, he nearly delivered again, latching onto a cross from Abayomi that flashed across the goal line. His powerful strike, however, smashed against the woodwork, leaving Transport United FC heartbroken.
The final minutes saw relentless pressure inside the Tensung box, with every available body thrown into defence.
