First Draw of the Season in the Mega Clash of Matchday 9
The much-anticipated mega clash of Match Week 2 in the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 ended in the league’s first draw of the season as defending champions Paro FC and rivals Thimphu City FC played out an intense goalless encounter at Woochu Sports Arena.

Ahead of kickoff, both head coaches acknowledged the importance of the fixture during the pre-match press conference. Thimphu City FC head coach Rodolfo Antonio Zapata described it as a “big game,” expressing confidence in his players despite facing the defending champions. He also promised an exciting contest for the fans. On the other side, Paro FC head coach Pushpalal Sharma stated that his side had bounced back strongly from their previous defeat, adding that the team was well prepared and hopeful of delivering a good performance.

The match began with both sides battling for control in midfield while searching for early openings. The visitors earned the game’s first corner in the 5th minute, and moments later Thimphu City FC skipper Orgyen Wangchuk Tshering registered the first shot of the evening with a long-range effort following the clearance from the set piece.
Paro FC received their first corner in the 13th minute, with Richard delivering the ball into the box, but Thierno Ndour rose highest to clear the danger.
Thimphu City FC continued to threaten from distance, with Dawa testing his luck in the 17th minute, though his left-footed strike failed to trouble the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Paro FC produced their first real attacking moment when Tiaga collected a loose rebound and laid the ball off to Yuta, whose powerful attempt toward the top corner struck the outside of the post.

The visitors continued to push forward and won another corner in the 27th minute after a dangerous cross was intercepted by Ugyen Dorji just inches away from goal. Despite several attempts from range, the closest chance of the first half for Thimphu City FC came in the 43rd minute when Dawa controlled the ball on the edge of the box, turned sharply, and unleashed a powerful strike that narrowly missed the target.
Paro FC finally forced the first shot on target in added time of the first half through a well-worked corner routine similar to the one that earned them a goal against Drukpa FC. Nima Wangdi delivered the cross into the area, and Tiaga’s header was comfortably gathered by goalkeeper Tsering Dendup. Moments later, the referee blew for halftime with the score still locked at 0–0.

The second half immediately exploded with intensity, tackles flying in from both teams. Within the opening five minutes after the restart, four fouls had already been committed, three of them in favour of the visitors.
Paro FC came close to breaking the deadlock in the 51st minute when Kinga Wangchuk surged down the left flank, skillfully beating his marker before finding Yuta, who quickly laid the ball off to Richard. From the edge of the area, Richard’s curling effort missed the target by only a few centimeters.

Just three minutes later, Paro FC threatened once again. Ugyen Dorji found Kinga on the left wing, and his dangerous cross created confusion inside the box. Asante cleverly acted as a decoy, allowing Richard space to strike, but his powerful effort crashed against the woodwork to deny the defending champions.
As the game became increasingly physical, the first yellow cards of the match arrived in the 64th minute, with Jonathan of Thimphu City FC and Ugyen Dorji both booked following a heated confrontation involving Dawa Tshering.
Paro FC made a tactical adjustment shortly after, replacing Kinga Wangchuk with Phurpa Wangchuk in midfield, while Yuta shifted out wide. Thimphu City FC also responded with changes of their own as captain Orgyen Wangchuk Tshering made way for Bakhrom, allowing Dawa to move into a more advanced attacking role.
Despite Paro FC dominating possession and creating pressure in the closing stages, the breakthrough never arrived. One of the final major opportunities came in the 78th minute when a dangerous corner nearly resulted in an own goal, only for Tiago to clear the ball off the line. And just four minutes later, a brilliant combination between Yuta and Richard created another opening for Paro FC, but Richard’s left-footed effort was comfortably gathered by goalkeeper Tsering Dendup.

After a fiercely contested battle filled with intensity, physical duels, and near misses, neither side could find the decisive moment as the match ended in a goalless draw, with both teams settling for a point each.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Kinley Penjor of Thimphu City FC. Speaking after the game, both coaches expressed mutual respect for one another and admitted satisfaction with sharing the points after such a demanding contest.
