RTC WFC Suffers Narrow Defeat in AFC Women’s Champions League Opener
In an exciting encounter at Changlimithang Stadium on August 25, RTC WFC suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat to Bam Khatoon FC of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the opening match of the AFC Women’s Champions League, Preliminary Stage 2024/25 | Group D.
The much-anticipated match began with intense energy from both teams as they sought to gain early control. RTC WFC found their breakthrough in the 26th minute when Ritu Porna Chakma capitalized on a well-placed long-range shot, igniting the crowd’s excitement. However, Bam Khatoon FC responded swiftly, equalising just seven minutes later in the 33rd minute. Mona Hamoudi’s perfectly placed volley left the RTC goalkeeper with no chance.
The second half saw both teams remain fiercely competitive. The turning point came in the 74th minute when Shahnaz Jafari Zadeh of Bam Khatoon FC delivered a powerful header into the top corner, following a powerful freekick from 45 yards out by Zahra Ghanbari. This goal crushed the hearts of RTC WFC and the home fans at Changlimithang Stadium, bringing the score to 2-1. Despite RTC WFC’s ongoing attempts to level the match, Bam Khatoon FC’s defence held strong.
Ultimately, Bam Khatoon FC emerged victorious with two goals to RTC WFC’s one. The fierce rivalry showcased the skill and tenacity of both teams, highlighting the high calibre of play in women’s football.
