Abayomi’s Late Strike Secures Three Points for the Grizzly Bears
Transport United FC secured a dramatic late victory over Ugyen Academy FC in the final match day of the first round of the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 at the Ugyen Academy Artificial Turf.

Heading into the clash, Ugyen Academy FC were determined to end their home win drought and finish the first round on a positive note. The hosts had managed just one victory from their previous eight matches, while Transport United FC arrived with renewed confidence after finding strong momentum under their new head coach.
The match lived up to expectations as both sides battled fiercely from the start. Ugyen Academy FC matched the visitors’ intensity and created several promising opportunities, while Transport United FC also threatened in the attacking areas. Despite both teams having crucial chances, neither side was able to break the deadlock in the opening half.
An early setback saw Ugyen Academy FC forced into a change, with Sonam Tshering coming off the bench to replace the injured Santa. The substitute played a vital role in helping the home side maintain their offensive shape and remain competitive throughout the contest.

The second half continued with both teams pushing forward in search of the opening goal. Transport United FC increased the pressure and came close on multiple occasions, with Abayomi denied by a crucial save. The rebound fell to the visitors again, but Ugyen Thinley produced a goal-line clearance to keep Ugyen Academy FC alive. The midfeilder repeated his heroics moments later to deny another Transport United FC attempt.

Ugyen Academy FC also had their opportunities, coming close through counter-attacking moves, with Pravin Uraon’s strike standing out as one of their best chances of the match.
The game also showcased an intriguing tactical battle, with Transport United FC head coach Wangda making attacking adjustments by pushing Denial into a striker role and occasionally deploying Martins in the forward position. Ugyen Academy FC, meanwhile, looked to exploit spaces on the counter, often committing numbers forward and at times placing five players inside the box during attacking phases.

Just when the match appeared destined for a goalless draw, the Grizzly Bears found their breakthrough deep into added time. Tikendra delivered a pinpoint long ball from the centre of the pitch into the box, and captain Abayomi rose highest to power a header into the back of the net, silencing the home crowd and securing all three points for Transport United FC.

The late winner once again underlined Abayomi’s leadership and ability to deliver in decisive moments, as the skipper carried the Grizzly Bears forward with another match-winning contribution.

The victory strengthens Transport United FC’s push towards the top end of the table, while Ugyen Academy FC continue their search for their first home victory of the campaign.
