The stage is officially set for an exciting new season as the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 Pre-Season Press Conference concluded successfully at Changlimithang Stadium.
Bringing together head coaches and captains from all participating clubs, the event offered valuable insights into team preparations, ambitions, and expectations ahead of what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons yet.

Champions Ready for the Challenge Defending champions Paro FC, the Tigers acknowledged the pressure that comes with success but remained confident in their preparations. Head Coach Puspalal Sharma emphasised the difficulty of defending the title: “It’s never easy to be a champion, and even harder to defend it. There is pressure, especially with many teams strengthening their squads. But we are prepared, and we aim to deliver quality football for our fans while also uplifting the standard of the game in the country.” On squad development and the inclusion of multiple players, he added: “One of my key objectives is to maintain high intensity in training so that our local players continue to develop alongside the process.”
Captain Tomo also shared optimism within the squad: “We have a good mix of foreign and local players. The team is building well together, and I believe we can have a very good season.”
At RTC FC, Head Coach Ugyen Dorji expressed confidence in his team’s readiness: “The pre-season has gone very well. We’ve been preparing since January, and the team is shaping up strongly. We are ready to go into the new season.”
Similarly, Tsirang FC Head Coach Pema highlighted steady progress despite ongoing arrivals: “Preparation is ongoing. Some players are still joining, but we have a stronger squad this year with good foreign and local players. We will do our best.”
Drukpa FC Head Coach Dorji Khandu made their ambitions clear: “Our objective is to finish in the top three. The competition will be tough, but we are ready to compete.”
For Ugyen Academy, Head Coach Kinley Dorji emphasised youth development: “We have been preparing for nearly three months, scouting from school and youth competitions. We don’t rely on a single tactic; it depends on the opponent.” He also underlined the club’s philosophy: “We have 13 new young players and no foreign signings. It will be a challenge, but a great opportunity for growth and experience.”
Tensung FC Head Coach Kinley Penjor expressed optimism: “The team spirit is strong, and preparations have gone well. We are looking forward to a good season.”
Captain Sonam Phuntsho highlighted what sets them apart: “We are a fully local team with no foreign players. That makes us different, but we are confident and well-prepared heading into the season.”
Thimphu City FC, Head Coach Rodolfo Zapata spoke passionately about the challenge ahead: “I accepted this challenge because I see great potential here. Bhutan has many young talents, and this season will be very competitive. My goal is clear: to build a winning team and fight for the title.”
Captain Orgyen Tshering Wangchuk reinforced the team’s mindset: “Every game is important for us. Our goal is always to win the league, and we approach every match with that intention.”
Transport United FC assistant coach, Yeshi Wangchuk, stated it’s a new season with a fresh mind and this year will be a different story for the Bhutan Premier League.
Thimphu FC Head Coach Raj Kumar acknowledged the step up to the top flight: “After winning the qualifiers, we are now focused on the BPL. It will be tougher, but we are prepared and ready for the fight.”
Captain Chencho Gyeltshen emphasised his leadership role: “With many young players in the squad, my aim is not just to play but to guide and motivate them.”Speaking about the highly anticipated derby, he added: “Matches between Thimphu FC and Thimphu City have always been special. It’s an exciting game, and we are focused on taking all three points.”
Head Coach of BFF Academy, Karma Dema, made a strong statement:
“I may be the only woman coach in the BoB Bhutan Premier League, but that doesn’t mean I will back down. We are going to give it our all and make our opponents suffer.”
With clubs strengthening their squads, investing in youth, and setting clear ambitions, the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 promises a thrilling contest filled with intensity, rivalries, and high-quality football.
