The first half was evenly contested, with both sides creating a few promising chances but failing to find the breakthrough. There was added intrigue as former Transport United players Afeez and Foda Fofana started against their old club, adding an extra edge to the encounter. Despite the intensity, the half ended goalless, with neither side able to fully take control.
After the break, Tsirang FC came out stronger and struck first to silence the home crowd. A clever turn and perfectly weighted through ball from Alex Willian split the defence, allowing Stephen Stalin to remain composed and slot home for a 1–0 lead to the visitors in the 58th minute.
