AFC Grassroots

The Bhutan Football Federation marks the 10th AFC Grassroots Day

The Bhutan Football Federation in collaboration with Paro Football Club celebrated the 10th anniversary of AFC Grassroots Day, 2023. The AFC Grassroots Day 2023 was marked as the 10th year in commemoration of this beautiful game of Football. The event was graced by the the Executive member of the Bhutan Football Federation, Mr. Chencho Dorji, the General Secretary, Mr. Ugyen Wangchhuk, Mr. Mehmet, the Technical Director of Bhutan Football Federation, The President of Paro Football Club, Mr. Karma Jigme, the staff of Bhutan Football Federation and parents.The AFC Grassroots Day was initially started in 2013. To this day, the event is celebrated with the objective of encouraging mass participation, stimulating greater interest in the game, providing more opportunities for social inclusion, supporting healthy lifestyles, and the development of young people, both in the sporting and educational aspects. Four schools from Paro district participated at this year’s event; Paro Elementary School, Yozerling primary school, Woochu lower secondary school, and Khangkhu Middle secondary school. A total of 260 students are participating in this event. Today’s activities included game and technical training in the main pitch, a technical contest engaging 100 children, and a team collaborative challenge engaging 60 children. The Bhutan Football Federation would like to share our heartfelt gratitude to AFC for supporting the grassroots in the country. Not to forget we also would like to share our heartfelt gratitude Paro Football Clubs, and volunteers from Paro College of Education(25 students pursuing Diploma in physical education and sports coaching), 10 senior players from Paro FC, 5 Paro FC Coaches, and 10 are parent volunteers for helping us in running the AFC Grassroots Day smoothly. The AFC Grassroots Day 2023 was also celebrated in Bumtang, Sarpang and Tashigang.

The Women’s National League, 2023 kicks off

The Women’s National League Qualifiers for 2023 kicked off on 6th May, 2023. The opening match of the qualifiers was played between Samtse WFC and  Ugyen Academy WFC at Samtse Astro Truf. The teams will play a single league format, whereby they will be grouped and each team will host 3 or 4 matches in their home ground, and after every team completes its 7 matches, the top 6 teams will qualify for the WNL 2023 season.A total of eight clubs are participating from different districts of the country.  8 teams participating for the Bhutan Women’s National League, 2023 are: 𝟭. 𝗨𝗔 𝗪𝗙𝗖 𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗵𝘂 𝗪𝗙𝗖 𝟯. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗵𝘂(𝗨𝟮𝟬) 𝟰. 𝗥𝗧𝗖 𝗪𝗙𝗖 𝟱. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗨𝗧𝗗 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝟲. 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝘁𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗙𝗖 𝟳. 𝗕𝘂𝗺𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗙𝗖 𝟴. SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST WORKSHOP

Football is the most popular sport worldwide, captivating millions of fans and players alike. The passion of supporters is a symbol of unity and excitement, but amidst the fervor and intensity of the sport, it’s crucial to acknowledge the potential risk associated with it. One such risk is cardiac arrest, a sudden and life-threatening condition that demands immediate attention. NO ONE GOES TO A FOOTBALL MATCH EXPECTING TO DIE. With this recognition and its importance, the Bhutan Football Federation medical department has come up with an education and awareness program by conducting theory and practical classes for players, coaches, and referees about cardiac arrest and its signs. Encouraging individuals to learn basic CPR and the use of an AED immediately, which can improve survival rates by a high percentage. By taking proactive measures, the soccer community can significantly reduce the risk of cardiac events and provide a safer environment for players to showcase their skills, passion, and love for the game. With this recognition and its importance, the Bhutan Football Federation medical department has come up with an education and awareness program by conducting theory and practical classes for players, coaches, and referees about cardiac arrest and its signs.

The Bhutan Football Federation Appoints New Technical Director

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐞𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐡 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫. Mr. Mehmet is from Turkey and holds the following licenses: AFC FOOTBALL-A, AFC FUTSAL LEVEL-2, FIFA FOOTBALL FITNESS, FIFA FUTSAL, FIFA BEACH SOCCER, and ITALY FUTSAL. He has a rich background in football and has coached a few clubs in Turkey, Taiwan, and Laos, as well as the national teams of Taiwan, Laos, and Brunei. He has conducted workshops on effective thinking in football, Asian women’s development analysis, the football defensive system, youth training strategies, and football transitions. He stated that he is very happy to be in Bhutan, the environment is very nice and he is trying to analyze the general environment of the Federation, and he also stated that he is here to support the technical aspects of Bhutanese football and the approach of moving forward.

The Pepsi Bhutan Premier League Qualifiers, 2023 started today at RTC Ground. The first match of the qualifiers was played between Tensung FC and Namlha FC. Tensung FC led through Kelzang Dorji in the opening half, but Namlha FC pulled one back from the set piece by the forward, “Zakali Leonce Dodoz” in the second half. Although Tensung FC were much more comfortable with the ball, Namlha FC were good enough to hold the score line at 1 – 1 till the final whistle. The man of the match, Samten Norbu of Namlha FC stated that it was their first match together and we couldn’t cope much in the opening half, but in the second half, we were much more organized and pulled one goal back, and we are happy to take a point because Tensung FC are not a team that we should underestimate. The second match of the day was played between Thimphu Raven FC and BFF Academy. The match ended in a draw after each team scored in the opening half. The opening goal of the game came from a penalty kick from the skipper of BFF Academy after the forward, Karan Uron was brought down by the defender of Thimphu Raven FC. The skipper, Pema Zangpo hit a decent low kick, which the goalkeeper of Thimphu Raven FC drove the right way but was unable to stop. Their lead was short lived when the goal of Thimphu Raven FC came from a long range effort from the midfielder, “Khenrab Rigzin Wangdi” after the half-hour mark. Tomorrow, Samtse FC is going to face Phuentsholing City FC at 2 p.m. at RTC Ground.
