Thimphu City FC Edge Thriller Against BFF Academy to Go Top of the Table
Thimphu City FC produced a resilient and hard-fought performance at Changlimithang Stadium to overcome BFF Academy in a pulsating 3–2 victory in the opening match of Matchweek 6 and the 26th match of the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026, a result that sent them to the summit of the table.

The Citizens started on the front foot, immediately setting the tone with early pressure. They won their first corner inside three minutes, followed by their first shot on goal in the 5th minute. Despite a brief BFF Academy counterattack in the 6th minute, which was calmly dealt with by Tsheltrim, Thimphu City continued to dominate possession and territory.

Jonathan tested the opposition with a long-range effort in the 13th minute, marking the first shot on target of the match. The Citizens maintained their control through the opening quarter, dominating the first 15 minutes with sustained attacking intent. Their pressure continued with a shot blocked in the 16th minute and another effort saved in the 27th minute as they searched for the breakthrough.

BFF Academy gradually grew into the game. Their first real chance came in the 22nd minute when Thinley Yezer fired over the bar. They followed it up with their first shot on target in the 25th minute, showing signs of attacking intent against the early dominance of the Citizens.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 37th minute when Tsheltrim Palzang head home from a well-delivered inswinging corner by Jonathan, giving Thimphu City FC a deserved lead after sustained pressure.

However, BFF Academy responded just before half-time through their in-form striker Rinzin Dorji, who unleashed a powerful left-footed strike in the 43rd minute. The effort gave the goalkeeper no chance and brought the Young Guns level going into the break.

The momentum continued after halftime, and BFF Academy stunned the home crowd when Thinley Yezer produced a moment of brilliance in the 52nd minute. Cutting inside from the right flank after receiving a pass from Dechog, he curled a sensational effort into the top corner to complete the turnaround.

But Thimphu City FC showed character and composure under pressure. They responded in the 67th minute after capitalising on a costly defensive error from BFF Academy. Bakhromjon seized the opportunity inside the box and calmly finished low to restore parity.

With the game finely balanced, the Citizens pushed forward in search of a winner and were rewarded for their persistence. Their attacking pressure and quick transitions eventually proved decisive as they completed the comeback and secured all three points.

At full-time, Thimphu City FC celebrated a crucial 3–2 victory, a result that highlighted their attacking quality, early dominance, and resilience under pressure, while also propelling them to the top of the BoB Bhutan Premier League table.
For BFF Academy, it was a painful defeat after a spirited performance, as individual mistakes ultimately cost them valuable points despite scoring twice away from home.
