10 Men Druk Lhayul FC Came From Behind To Take All 3 Points
In the 21st match of the 2023 BoB Bhutan Premier League, Namlha FC hosted Druk Lhayul FC in their inaugural encounter in any competition. During the pre-match press conference, the head coach of Namlha FC mentioned that most of his players were unavailable, leaving only 16 players for the match. Conversely, Kinley, a player from Druk Lhayul FC, asserted that they held great respect for Namlha FC and had undergone rigorous training for the game.
Namlha FC initiated the match with a 7th-minute goal from a penalty, taken by John Payin Sarsha, after Sonam Jordan, a winger from Druk Lhayul FC, used his hand to clear the ball from the goal line. Sonam was subsequently issued a direct red card, reducing Druk Lhayul FC to ten players. However, in the 18th minute, despite being a player down, Druk Lhayul FC managed to level the score due to an own goal by Kinley Sithup. Ekom’s powerful shot from the right was deflected into the net by Kinley Sithup’s chest, inadvertently getting past the goalkeeper. Druk Lhayul FC gained the lead in the 42nd minute with a penalty taken by Niang Aung Kyaw. The penalty was awarded after Sangay Wangchuk was fouled inside the penalty area. Aung confidently positioned himself over the penalty spot, executing it calmly with precision, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Thus, Druk Lhayul FC concluded the first half with a 2-1 advantage.
During the second half, Niang Aung Kyaw secured his second goal of the match with a well-placed outside-foot shot, nutmegging the goalkeeper after receiving a skilful lobbed through pass from Tenzin Dorji. Despite being down a player, Druk Lhayul FC dominated possession (57.6%), attempted 19 shots, and completed 430 passes out of 467 attempted. In contrast, Namlha FC held 42% possession, attempted 9 shots, and completed 164 passes out of 246 attempted.
Following back-to-back victories in the BoB Bhutan Premier League 2023, subsequent to their defeat against Transport United FC, Druk Lhayul FC now occupies the third position in the standings. Meanwhile, Namlha FC is yet to secure a point, placing them at the bottom of the table.
