Cultivating Young Talents into Refereeing Across the Nation

The Bhutan Football Federation kick off with the inaugural of the four days grassroots refereeing program in Phuentsholing today. The program is a significant step towards promoting and nurturing young talents in the field of football officiating. A total of 20 participants have been selected to partake in this pioneering initiative, comprising 8 girls and 12 boys. The chosen participants hail from various regions, including Gelephu, Samtse, Punakha, and Paro, showcasing the program’s commitment to inclusivity and nationwide representation. The age range of the participants spans from 10 to 17 years, underlining the emphasis on cultivating referee skills among young individuals. The program is led by experienced instructors and referees in the country, namely Mr. Ratan Rai, Mr. Namgay Dorji, and Mr. Pema Norbu, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the sessions. The session are mentored by Mr. Ugyen Dorji,  the Head of the Referee Department, providing guidance and support to ensure the success of the grassroots program. This initiative not only marks a historic moment for the Bhutan Football Federation but also highlights the dedication to fostering a new generation of referees. The inclusion of both girls and boys in the program reflects a commitment to gender equality and the belief that everyone should have an equal opportunity to contribute to the sport. According to Mr. Ugyen Dorji, the Head of the Referee Department, “This marks the initiation of the first-ever grassroots refereeing program in the country, and it’s currently in its pilot phase. If proven successful, we are committed to extending the program to other districts. One of our primary goals is to involve the younger generation in a meaningful activity during the winter break.” As the participants undergo training in Phuentsholing, the program aims to instil not only the technical aspects of refereeing but also essential values such as fair play, integrity, and teamwork. Bank of Bhutan signs a Major Sponsorship for Bhutan Football Leagues (2024-2026)

A momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between The Bank of Bhutan, represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dorji Kadin, and the Vice President of the Bhutan Football Federation, Mr. Pema Dorj today. Under this significant agreement, The Bank of Bhutan will sponsor the title for both the Bhutan Premier League and the Bhutan Women’s National League from 2024 – 2026. This collaboration underscores the Bank of Bhutan’s commitment to support and promote football in the country. The recognition bestowed upon him symbolizes not only individual excellence but also a source of immense national pride. Chencho’s exceptional contributions to the realm of football in the country and on the international stage have not only garnered attention locally but have also brought acclaim to Bhutan on the international stage. His prowess on the field, marked by skilful moves, goal-scoring prowess, and dedication to the sport, has made him a role model for aspiring athletes across the nation. The BFF-AFC B Diploma Coaching Course concludes

The BFF-AFC B Diploma Coaching Course concluded today at the BFF Academy today. The closing ceremony was graced by the general secretary of the Bhutan Football Federation Mr. Ugyen Wangchhuk. The course was led by Mr. Kinley Dorji, the head of coach education, with assistance from Mr. Puspa Lal Sharma. A total of 13 participants, including one female, actively participated in the program. Upon completion, the coaches are set to return to their respective clubs and academies to apply their newfound knowledge in developing youth teams and nurturing young players. Each coach has been assigned specific tasks, which they are required to submit to the instructor before being issued their certificates and coaching licenses. The Bhutan Football Federation consistently organizes such courses to enhance the education of coaches in the country, aiming to produce more qualified individuals dedicated to the development of football at the grassroots level.

Ms. Emily Mackey joins the Bhutan Football Federation as the Head Coach of U14 Girls under the FIFA Talent Coach Programme under the Talent Development Scheme.

Ms. Eilidh Mackay joins the Bhutan Football Federation as the Head Coach of U14 Girls.

Eilidh Mackay is a collaborative leader and experienced coach aligning stakeholders to achieve collective goals. In her recent role as FIFA Legacy Manager, she fostered a collaborative culture between two host nations, two confederations and FIFA, organizing workshops to create a collective legacy program producing a post-tournament legacy impact report. As the Men’s Premier League Head Coach at KPFC, Eilidh proactively evolved the club’s culture, raised standards, and developed a sustainable program. Her role as Head of Female Football at NSFA showcased her proactive approach in creating and implementing the “What’s Best For Her” strategy, resulting in tangible outcomes such as increased player retention, coach representation, and female player representation. Eilidh’s diverse experience also includes roles with Football Australia as a Support Coach for the Future Matilda’s program and Northern Tigers as the Girls SAP Technical Director, NPL Youth Head Coach, and XLR8 Player Development Manager. Throughout her career, she emphasized holistic player development, coach education, and community engagement. Her achievements include AFC/FA A-License, participation in FIFA’s Female Coach Mentoring and Coach Educator programs, and serving as the Chair of the FNSW Women’s Standing Committee. Eilidh is a certified personal trainer, a recipient of the Women in Leadership Sports Grant, and actively involved in coaching education and development initiatives.

PRO Licence Course-Bhutan

The BFF-AFC Pro Diploma Coaching Course Module 2 concludes

The BFF-AFC Pro Diploma Coaching Course Module 2 which started on 8th November  concluded on 19th November 2023 with its second practical assessment, led by Mr. Vincent Subramaniam as the main tutor. The module 2 covered the topics on leadership, management, the know-how of a technical director and knowing yourself  in the theory session. In the practical session, the course focused in tactics and strategies of a game. A total of ten participants were involved, including two females. The third module is scheduled to commence on December 23, 2023, and will continue until January 2, 2024. Following the completion of Module 2, participants will return to their respective clubs to apply the knowledge gained and train their teams. Each participant has been assigned an assignment based on the playing philosophy, which they are required to submit to the tutors during the third module.

The Bhutan Football Federation in collaboration with the UNICEF: Bhutan marked the World Children’s Day at Changlimithang Stadium with a Grassroots Football Programme. The program was graced by the chairperson of National Council, His Excellency Sangay Dorji, UNICEF Regional Director for South Asia, Sangay Wijesekera and the President of the Bhutan Football Federation Dasho Ugen Tsechup. The event was attended by the officials of UNICEF Bhutan, BFF Staffs, coaches, parents, children from various schools including children with disabilities and monks.
