Thimphu City Take Derby Honours as Sully Shines on Debut
The BoB Bhutan Premier League 2026 got underway in Thimphu today with a derby that felt alive from the stands to the pitch. A light drizzle hung over the stadium, but it did little to slow the crowd. If anything, it added to the mood. Blue on one side, red on the other, and the noise never really dipped. Thimphu City FC, one of the league’s most established sides, up against a returning Thimphu FC team that had come through the qualifiers with confidence. Even before kickoff, it felt evenly poised.
The game did not take long to spark. Just minutes in, a looping ball into the box found Sadick Sully, and the debutant made his moment count. He rose cleanly, met it with conviction, and sent a sharp header past the keeper. It was the kind of goal that settles nerves for one side and unsettles the other. Thimphu City had their early lead, and you could feel the shift instantly.

Thimphu FC tried to respond, but their rhythm never really settled. There were glimpses, small pockets where they looked ready to break through, but the final pass or touch kept letting them down. Around the 22nd minute, Chencho Nio found space near the post and for a split second the equalizer looked certain, but a last-ditch clearance from the Thimphu City defense kept it out. It was one of those moments that could have changed the tone of the match.
For Chencho Gyeltshen, it was a frustrating evening. He kept making the runs, drifting into spaces, asking for the ball, but it never quite reached him the way it needed to. There was a moment in the first half where he checked his run between two defenders, ready for a through pass that never came. You could see the disappointment immediately. A player known for turning half chances into goals never really got that one clean opportunity to test himself.
At the other end, Orgyen Wangchuk Tshering, wearing the captain’s armband for Thimphu City, quietly controlled the flow of the game. He was constantly talking, organizing, asking his players to stay compact and disciplined. When Thimphu FC tried to push, he slowed things down, recycled possession, and made sure his side stayed composed. It was not loud leadership, but it was effective.
Then came the moment that gave Thimphu City breathing space. A cross from Jignam Seltop Dorji drifted into the box, not particularly dangerous at first glance, but a misjudgment from the goalkeeper turned it into a costly error as the ball slipped straight in. From the stands, there was a brief silence before the Thimphu City supporters erupted again. Two nil going into halftime, and the game was leaning heavily in one direction.

The second half saw Thimphu City settle even more into control. They were not rushing, just moving the ball with patience, waiting for spaces to open. Thimphu FC, on the other hand, looked unsettled. Passes went astray, touches were heavy, and the coordination at the back started to wobble.
Around the hour mark, that pressure told again. A mix up between the goalkeeper and defense during a routine situation ended with the ball in their own net. It summed up a difficult spell for Thimphu FC and effectively put the result beyond reach at three nil.
From there, Thimphu City managed the game with maturity, keeping their shape and closing out the match without unnecessary risks. The crowd stayed engaged till the end, sensing they had witnessed a strong opening statement for the season.

On a day that had moments of quality, lapses, and individual battles, one performance stood out clearly. The debutant who opened the scoring, Sadick Sully of Thimphu City FC, not only gave his team the early edge but carried himself with confidence throughout, earning the Man of the Match recognition for a memorable first outing in the league.
