Bhutan Football Federation’s Social Responsibility Program: Bridging the Gap, 2nd Edition
To promote social responsibility and inclusivity, the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) successfully concluded the second edition of its Social Responsibility Program titled “Bridging the Gap.” The five-day initiative, held at various locations in the capital and Paro, aimed to cultivate an enhanced sense of responsibility and awareness among young football enthusiasts while addressing critical societal issues of the country.
In the second edition of the Social Responsibility Program, the kids were selected from 5 remote schools namely:
1. Merak Primary School(Tashigang)
2. Sakteng Lower Secondary School(Tashigang)
3. Tsamang Primary School(Mongar)
4. Rangtse Primary School(Haa)
5. Sengdhyen Lower Secondary School(Samtse)
The program kicked off with an energetic start, focusing on the development of the participants both on and off the field. The agenda included skills testing, dribbling techniques, and engaging in small-sided games. Amidst the sporting activities, participants had the unique opportunity to visit Buddha Point, providing a reflective experience that added a meaningful touch to their journey.
Day two of the program delved into essential discussions and presentations addressing critical issues. Renowned figures such as Mr. Tobgay, a UNICEF child specialist, and Ms. Cheki Wangmo, the Safeguarding Officer of the Bhutan Football Federation, shared insights on ending violence against children and the necessity of safeguarding and addressing various forms of harassment. The participants were actively involved in the learning process and organized into groups to develop compelling drama role-plays addressing key safeguarding issues such as physical harassment, sexual harassment, emotional harassment, bullying, and grooming. This interactive approach allowed them to showcase their understanding of these issues and promote a deeper awareness within the football community.
The third day took participants to the UN House, where they were introduced to the child mandala and participated in a grassroots program at the Changlimithang National Stadium. The day also featured an art competition and the chance to witness a Bhutan Women’s National League competition, further immersing participants in the football culture.
The program reached its pinnacle on the final day, marked by a visit to the Paro Woochu Sports Arena, where participants received technical training at a newly built pickleball court and explored the airport, gaining valuable insights into aviation operations. The day concluded with live musical performances, adding a vibrant touch to the program and a dinner hosted by the President of BFF, Dasho Ugen Tsechup, at Namgay Heritage. The event celebrated the participants’ commitment and contributions to the program’s success. Dasho, along with Ms. Zimbiri, an Executive Committee Member of BFF, presented each participant with a meaningful gift, symbolising the knowledge and camaraderie gained during the program.
“Bridging the Gap” not only empowered young football enthusiasts with skills but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility and awareness, fostering positive change within Bhutan’s football community. The program stands as a testament to the transformative power of sports in addressing societal issues and building a more inclusive and responsible society.
