Anjana “Anju” Turambekar Appointed Technical Director & U-17 Head Coach We are delighted to announce the appointment of Anjana Turambekar as the Technical Director of the Girls Academy in Gelephu and Head Coach of the U-17 Women’s National Team. Hailing from Maharashtra, India, Anju is widely regarded as a trailblazer in Indian and Asian football. Her journey is a powerful story of resilience, self-belief, and determination, having overcome social and infrastructural challenges to rise to the top of the game. An AFC ‘A’ Licensed Coach and one of India’s youngest female coaches to achieve this milestone, Anju brings with her a wealth of experience across technical leadership, grassroots development, and elite youth football. Her impressive portfolio includes key roles such as: Head of Grassroots Development at the All India Football Federation Technical Head for the FIFA U-17 World Cup (MXIM Project) AFC Grassroots Panel & Technical Expert AFC Youth Panel Member and Technical Analyst International coaching experience in Singapore Anjana “Anju” Turambekar Appointed Technical Director & U-17 Head Coach Beyond her technical expertise, Anju is deeply committed to using football as a vehicle for social change. A Portuguese coach with a rich multicultural background, Mario’s football journey spans Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Portugal. Developed through elite European academy systems, he earned promotion to the senior team at just 17, competing against renowned clubs such as Sporting CP and AFC Ajax. Mario Leandro Silva Joins as Fitness Coach & U-14 Head Coach Mario began his coaching career in 2002 with Excelsior Virton, working with youth teams before progressing to senior teams in Luxembourg’s top divisions. Upon returning to Portugal, he founded a football club in Setúbal, earning recognition for his visionary approach to player development. Fluent in multiple languages and experienced across diverse football cultures, Mario brings a strong foundation in fitness, tactical awareness, and high-performance training environments. In Gelephu, the Girls Academy became a vibrant hub of creativity and competition. Participants engaged in meaningful poster presentations that reflected their love for football and the role of women in sport. The event also featured exciting activities such as the “Blindfold Shooting” challenge and a thrilling women’s friendly match, creating an energetic and inspiring atmosphere for everyone involved. The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) successfully concluded its first-ever Match Commissioner Workshop, marking an important milestone in strengthening match governance and competition management in Bhutan. The three-day program aimed to build the capacity of aspiring match commissioners and enhance professional standards in football match operations. The workshop commenced with an opening ceremony graced by the General Secretary of the Bhutan Football Federation, highlighting the federation’s commitment to improving operational excellence within domestic competitions. The first day began with an overview of BFF competitions presented by Kinley Dorji, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the federation’s competition structure and operational standards. This was followed by an engaging theory and interactive learning session facilitated by Mindu Dorji, FIFA/AFC Match Commissioner, who led the three-day workshop. Participants also took part in knowledge-sharing discussions, allowing them to exchange experiences, discuss practical challenges, and deepen their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of match commissioners. On the second day, participants began with a group review of the previous day’s sessions, reflecting on key learnings and clarifying important concepts. The morning continued with a series of presentations from federation officials. Tsewang Tashi, Chief Security and Integrity Officer, delivered a session on safety and security protocols. Nidup Gyeltshen presented on media and commercial operations, while Phurba Waiba conducted a session on the Competition Management System. The theory segment concluded with Yeshey Samdrup, who spoke on medical matters and match-day medical preparedness. Following the classroom sessions, participants were taken to Changlimithang Stadium for practical training exercises. The hands-on activities included flag hosting procedures, team marching protocols, logistics coordination, operational room observation, and ground markings, providing participants with valuable real-match operational scenarios. The facilitators later conducted a tutorial review session, offering feedback and further clarification based on observations from the field exercises. Reflecting on the importance of the role, Ugyen Wangchhuk, General Secretary of the Bhutan Football Federation, stated:“Being a match commissioner is not easy, but with preparation, dedication, and professionalism, you can excel. Remember, you are the boss of every game, and your reports are crucial legal documents for the federation. Progress over time matters, and we depend on you to uphold the highest standards.” The final day featured a written examination for participants, along with a review of key sessions from the previous days. Participants also attended a presentation on how to effectively conduct a Match Coordination Meeting, an essential responsibility of match commissioners during competitions. The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates to all participants, recognizing their successful completion of the training program and their commitment to enhancing professionalism and match operations under the Bhutan Football Federation. Changjiji, Thimphu | 28 February 2026 The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) officially inaugurated the FIFA Arena Project 2026 ground at Loseling Middle Secondary School in Changjiji this morning, marking another important step in strengthening football infrastructure in Bhutan. The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, who attended as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were Lyonpo Yeezang De Thapa, FIFA Regional Director for Member Associations (Asia and Oceania) Sanjeevan C. Balasingam, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, officials from FIFA, the Bhutan Olympic Committee, as well as the principal, teachers, and students of Loseling Middle Secondary School. The program began with the traditional Marchang ceremony, a sacred Bhutanese offering performed to invoke blessings, remove obstacles, and ensure the success of significant milestones. The ceremony set an auspicious tone for the inauguration of the new facility. In his opening address, Dasho Ugen Tsechup, President of the Bhutan Football Federation, highlighted the broader vision behind the initiative. “In a mountainous nation like ours, where quality playing space is limited, these mini pitches will transform the future of football. We want to ensure that no child in Bhutan has to travel miles to find a proper ball and a safe field; we want football at the doorstep of every Bhutanese home. With the visionary support of FIFA and the blessings of His Royal Highness, it is our dream and mission to establish 100 mini pitches across every Dzongkhag and school in the country. The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) proudly congratulates the national women’s futsal team, the Dragon Girls, for securing a historic bronze medal at the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship 2025–26, marking a significant milestone for Bhutanese women’s football and futsal on the regional stage. Bhutan delivered a commendable tournament campaign, finishing third overall with 11 points from six matches. The Dragon Girls recorded three wins, two draws, and one defeat, scoring 18 goals and conceding 13, underlining their attacking intent, resilience, and growing tactical maturity throughout the competition. Bhutan opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Pakistan, followed by an impressive 3–3 draw against eventual champions Bangladesh. The team then gathered momentum with convincing victories over Sri Lanka (5–1) and the Maldives (4–2), before producing one of the standout performances of the tournament with a 2–1 win over India, who later finished as runners-up. Bhutan’s only defeat came against Nepal in a closely contested 5–3 match, which did little to diminish an otherwise outstanding campaign. Deki Lhazon tops the goalscoring chart for Bhutan Individually, Deki Lhazom emerged as one of Bhutan’s key attacking players, finishing the tournament with four goals, while the collective effort and unity of the squad remained the defining strength behind the bronze-medal success. Reflecting on the achievement, team captain Sonam Lhamo expressed pride in the team’s journey and performance: “Winning the bronze medal in the first-ever SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship is a proud moment for all of us. We believed in ourselves, fought together in every match, and showed that Bhutan can compete confidently at the regional level. The intensive three-day Capacity Building for Administrators under the FIFA Women’s Development Programme, led by Ms. Natcha Tarateerasarn and Ms. Pema Choden Tshering, both Women’s Football experts, reached its successful conclusion today, marking a significant milestone in the professionalisation of football management in the country. The final day was packed with critical insights into governance, followed by a celebratory closing ceremony that honoured the dedication of participants from across the football community. The final day commenced with a focus on the ethical foundations of the sport. Mr. Tshewang Tashi, the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) Security Head and Integrity Officer, led the first session on Integrity and Security. His presentation underscored the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards and ensuring a secure environment for the growth of the game.The workshop then moved toward the technicalities of professional club management. Miss Natcha from FIFA, alongside Ms. Kuenzang Choden, delivered a comprehensive session on Club Licensing. This segment provided administrators with the roadmap necessary to meet international standards, ensuring that local clubs are built on sustainable and professional foundations.The educational portion of the day wrapped up with a vital presentation on Safeguarding. Miss Natcha returned to the podium, joined by Mr. Nidup Gyeltshen, to emphasise the collective responsibility of administrators in protecting all participants, especially youth, within the football ecosystem. The three-day course was led by FIFA TDS Lead, Mr. Eric, and focused on strengthening the capacity of elite coaches in modern talent identification and player development methodologies. A total of 19 participants took part in the program, which featured a balanced combination of theoretical insights and practical, field-based sessions. Key areas of focus included talent identification principles, player profiling, long-term player development, and the effective application of FIFA TDS frameworks within the Bhutanese football ecosystem. Under Mr. Eric’s expert guidance, participants were exposed to FIFA’s global best practices, with particular emphasis on identifying potential talent at an early age and aligning development pathways with Bhutan’s national football development strategy. The course served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, interactive discussions, and hands-on learning, empowering BFF elite coaches to implement structured, sustainable, and evidence-based talent identification systems across elite and regional training environments.
